Community Fruit Trees

About

KYCA applied and received a grant to purchase "community fruit trees". Fifteen trees will be planted throughout the Houghton/Hancock community in publicly accessible areas. The fruit will be freely available to all community members.

This project ties into our mission of contributing to a more sustainable community by increasing accessibility to healthy local produce. Growing food within the city can also increase residents' connection to their food and to the earth.

We have found a tree supplier and decided on planting locations. Keep an eye out for new trees come spring 2021!

Locations

Trees will be located as indicated on the map:

Beyond these trees, we also encourage you to check out fallingfruit.org which is a database of community fruit trees worldwide.

How can I help?

Once planted, trees will need ongoing care such as pruning and installing winter tree guards. Check back in February for a link to sign up to be a tree caretaker.
